Notepad++: A Powerful Notepad Replacement

Windows Notepad is a cute little text editor. It has a simple interface, uses a monospace font right off the bat, and has a find/replace function. What more could you want?

Well, when you discover Notepad++, you’ll realize what you’re missing.

Notepad++ is a free (as in “free speech” and also as in “free beer”) source code editor and Notepad replacement that supports several languages.

For me, there is no reason to go back to using Windows Notepad. Notepad++ boasts an impressive amount of features, including line numbers, syntax highlighting for many languages, document tabs, and regular expressions, to name a few.

As a programmer, there are some features I just can’t do without. While the interface may seem a little daunting at first, after spending some time examining the menus, you will discover time-saving features that make programming and text processing quicker than ever. Never again will you mindlessly clear trailing white-space, fix broken line returns, or copy/paste a line you could simply duplicate!

If you’re a Windows user and write code, I urge you to try it out!
